MUSCLES

Not sure what you should be feeling or why you are working certain muscles when you exercise?

Let’s talk about…

GLUTES

  • Your glutes can be found around back and side of your pelvis/hips.

    We have three glute muscles

    • Gluteus maximus

    • Gluteus medius

    • Gluteus minimus

    • Extends the hip

    • Rotates the hip

    • Lifts leg out to the side (abduction)

    • Stabilises the pelvis

    • Pelvic alignment

    • Driving you forward during walking, running, jumping..

    • Helps to stabilise pelvis when standing on one leg

    • Supports the lower back and helps with bracing during lifting

    • Helps with knee alignment to reduce risk of knee injuries

    • Gluteus maximus: Glute bridges, hip thrusts, Romanian deadlifts

    • Gluteus medius/minimus: Single leg work such as split squats, lunges, single leg deadlifts, banded side steps, side lying leg lifts, clam shells, side planks
